THE MODEL
As OF GREATER ORLANDO
Go to
Silver Springs
2006
Twenty-four (24) model A’s made a tour to Silver Springs this last
weekend.. The Hoods and the Wendlings left from St Cloud Friday morning
and drove to Apopka. There we met another group of A’s and then
caravanned to the Villages where we met up with more As. We enjoyed
lunch there and displayed our cars on the circle. The people at the
village enjoyed the cars. At 2 o’clock we left for Silver Spring which
is just the other side of Ocala. We arrived there at 3:30. After
resting, taking showers and some changing clothes, we had a happy hour
set up by some of the wives. At 7 p.m., we all loaded up again for a
4-mile trip to a Barn Hills restaurant for supper. We returned to the
motel to continue with happy hour till bed time.
On Saturday morning, we made the cars ready for the short trip across
the rode to the Silver Springs park. They had a special area under the
big beautiful oaks for us to park our cars. This was close to the stage
where Glen Campbell was to perform that afternoon. After parking our
cars, some of the group carried their chairs over to the stage area so
they could have a closer view of the performers. Then everyone went
their way to enjoy the park. The setting of most of all the activities
was left natural so you had lots of shade. The boat trips, alligator and
reptile shows were very educational and enjoyable. Some of group stayed
around the cars to talk to the very large crowd that was there all day.
At 3 p.m., Glen Campbell hit the stage singing all of his old hits. He
was joined by his daughter who sang a bunch of the songs with her dad.
At 5 p.m. we returned to the motel, where happy began. It was decided
that we would eat in shifts at the restaurant across the street. After
dinner, happy hour continued till bedtime. There was a little excitement
during this time when a rain storm arrived that evening. Plastic was
used to cover some of the vehicles. One member of the group utilized the
overhang on the motel office to protect his newly purchased vehicle.
Sunday morning we woke up and prepared for the return trip home. First,
we were all treated to hot biscuits and gravy which was prepared by the
motel staff. They just loved the cars and hoped that this would be a
yearly thing with our group staying at their motel. They were all out to
wave goodbye when we left for the trip home. We all made it home safe
and sound with no breakdowns in the 238 mile round trip tour. We do
believe that this is a record for the club (no breakdowns)
