KUDOS to the Corvair Club!
By: Allison Hartwell

The Greater Orlando Corvair Club known to all as G.O. Vairs received Kudos from David Lane the President and CEO of the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Lane attended the Go Vairs meeting at Nannies Kitchen on Sunday, April 18th, 2004
He presented the club with a Certificate Of Appreciation for their Community Service, Participation in the 2003 St. Cloud Christmas Parade which was viewed by over 16,000 people and for their support of and commitment to the Community of St. Cloud. He said he "admired the club for choosing Nannie's Kitchen and drawing attention to downtown St. Cloud, and he was proud of all that the club has accomplished in its first year."  He thanked the club for its support and commitment to the community, as well as their particpation in the Christmas Parade and said the club is been a tremendous asset to the community. He was impressed at the many wins the club has to its credit, and was encouraging the club for future successes in the coming year, particularly with the club's upcoming show at Old Town.

The G.O. Vairs Corvair club celebrated its first Anniversary April 18th, 2004. From humble beginnings meeting in a front yard on April 2003, some twenty members have flourished into a highly active award winning group of over fifty members and families. Their outstanding spirit and willingness to support their community have earned the club recognition in Osceola County and Nationally among Corvair owners and enthusiasts.
In the past year, they have helped numerous charities, and community based organizations by displaying their fine collection of vintage automobiles-the Greater Orlando Corvair Club now has the largest number of drivable Corvairs in the state. They have donated to the Senior Center, Osceola Children's Home, Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch, Friends of Osceola Children, Guardian Ad Litem Program, as well as supporting the revitalization of the historic district in downtown St.Cloud, by showcasing historic sites such as the St. Cloud Twin Cinemas, and New York Avenue, where they hold their monthly meetings and display their cars at Nannies Kitchen-1018 New York Avenue. They have transported councilmen and women in the Christmas Parade as well. They have supported local cruises, and won the Club Participation Award at the Spring Fling in St. Cloud, and will be at the July 4th Celebration at the invitation of Mr. Lane and the Chamber of Commerce where they hope to unveil their new valve cover racetrack currently under construction. The club has numerous trophies to the credit of its members. Winning ten in St. Augustine, Nine in Inverness, Ten at the Spring Fling in addition to the Club Participation Award, four in Autocross Racing-Yes, they have a race Team too! They have also trophied at the cruises in Kissimmee and St. Cloud and received the coveted checkered flag at Old Town.

G.O. Vairs will be hosting a charity Car show to help sick and abused children on September 24-26 2004 at Old Town. Comfort Suites Maingate East is a major sponsor of the club and is offering a wonderful package for attendees who mention the Corvair Club. Old Town is sponsoring the first annual Deac Hundley Award of Excellence, Nannies Kitchen joined by other community based businesses which have offered to sponsor the upcoming show. Holiday Chevrolet was among the first, Public Bank, Main Street Grille, Ken Shipley and Sprint, Haggerty Insurance, and even Premiere Construction of Algonquin Illinois sent a check after seeing the club at Sonic one week and heard about their show, Advanced Auto has donated to the club as has Auto Zone, Baskets With Love- Donna Hart is donating all the centerpieces for their awards banquet, even racing legend Don Garlitts made a donation when he heard about the clubs civic mindedness. G-Force, Sling shot, Arabian Nights, Medevil Times, and Pirates golf have also contributed. The show expects to attract car enthusiasts from as far away as Pennsylvania as well as several southern states. Proceeds from the People's Choice Corvair show at Old Town which is open to the public, will help local children's charities. The Greater Orlando Corvair Association is a registered non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
Donations are still needed anyone able or willing to sponsor the show is encouraged to contact the club by calling 407-892-5999 or by visiting at their new website www.govairs.net The site was built and donated to the club by Steve Butler owner of YUIOP.com. The club has made an indelible mark in the community and is St. Cloud Proud. The club also has on display at Nannie's Kitchen an award for John Willard, publisher of St. Cloud in the news for his outstanding Community Service and coverage of local events.
