October 15th,
FACACA goes to
Third Saturday of the Month
Strawberry Classic Car Show
at Plant City, Florida
photos and story by Evelyn Booher
With so many events going on this
weekend it was hard to choose one to go to, we usually go to Old Town on
Saturdays but this week we chose to "Payback" friends that rallied with
us at Old Town two weeks ago and join them in Plant City. So just before
noon we brought our '63 Corvair out from it's home in the garage. It has
been over a week since we have been able to negotiate our yard, well
maybe I should say Lake. The water, from the constant rain last week had
subsided enough to negotiate the driveway to the road. We we're finally
on our way to meet up with Tom & Edna, with their Greenbrier Van, then
with Steve & Cheryl in the '29 Model A Sport coupe. These
three members of this short caravan
made it's way through Saint Cloud, then we met up with the fourth car
for the 70 mile plus trip to Plant City. We spotted Tony & Sharon in the
'69 Ranchero just south of Kissimmee, after a brief stop, we then made
our way down Highway 17&92. We traveled the "backroads" because Steve
was in
the lead with the Model A and he
didn't want to push the 75 year old car much over 55MPH. People along
the route would toot horns and wave. I am sure the sight of these cars,
representing 40 years of Automotive history, with the newest being 35
years old, running down the road like this was quite unique to see.
Upon our arrival we all ate and the Ladies went shopping in the antique
stores and a tour of the historic train station. We met up with Cathy
Lee & Mike, John Haebeggar parked next to us with his Mint Green
Greenbrier Van.
The Taylor's we first met at old town
in March of 04 when they just purchased a '64 Beige Corvair Convertible
that they originally owned when new. They also returned a shirt to Ed
they had borrowed way back then.
The City Streets were jammed with
Cars, Craft Tables and Food Stands. 2 new Pontiacs they were chancing
off.
it was a really great day and a
wonderful trip with good friends.
